Humane Touch, a voluntary organization active in the Islands since
2007, organised a special awareness programme on Alcoholism for the
employees of Chatham Saw Mill today. More than 100 employees
participated in the programme.
Dr Sudip Chakraborthy MD and Dr Mithesh Bihari, Psychiatrist were the
two resource persons. Enlightening the gathering about the ill-effects
of Alcoholism, Dr Sudip Chakraborthy, a renowned physician of the
Islands said that this scourge is eating into the vitals of the
society affecting both the individual as well as the family. Through a
presentation, he explained the effects of alcohol intake on human body
and the irreparable damage it inflicts.
Dr Mithesh Bihari explained about the ways to get out of the addiction
through willpower as well as availing proper treatment. He also
elucidated about the impact of alcoholism on women and children.
Many participants expressed their willingness to avail medical help to
get out of the bane. Both the resource persons expressed their
cooperation and commitment by extending their service.
Mr. Selvam, Mechanical Engineer, Mill Division was the Chief Guest on
the occasion. M K Abdul Gafoor, President, Humane Touch welcomed the
gathering and announced that the organization will take initiatives to
conduct de-addiction camp with the help of the resource persons. K P
